About
The Wynd thoroughfare is in the heart of historic Melrose in
the beautiful Borderlands of Scotland, the Wynd Theatre is a
small privately managed professional theatre catering for
live performances of all disciplines. From small touring
theatre groups, to contemporary dance, light classical, folk
and blues to the Swing of the Big Band, the Wynd offers the
intimacy of a local venue, with the professionalism of
bigger city theatres.
 |
|
Suitable also as a small conference or exhibition centre,
the Wynd Theatre boasts permanent seating for 90 persons,
with a maximum audience capacity of 100. Facilities
include projection equipment, in house PA system, recording
facilities, full lighting rig, licensed bar, with disabled
access to all areas, and accommodation available, plus pre
theatre supper arrangements. |
|
Having over the last few years undergone major upgrading
development, the Wynd now boasts improved accessibility and
viewing for the audience, and the new Wynd Foyer Bar, where
visitors can enjoy some refreshments before, during and
after a performance. |
 |
Recent improvements include the upgrading of the in-house
audio system, and the installation of the latest Broadband
digital technology to facilitate live broadcasting from the
theatre. This innovative step marks the beginning of an
exciting new communication for the theatre, providing
performers with the opportunity to perform to an
international audience. Such a facility, it is hoped, will
attract yet more top performers to the Wynd Theatre.
Melrose, itself, has much to offer. With many fine hotels
and B&B’s and a number of good restaurants, Melrose serves
well as a base for a visit to the Borders Of Scotland. Few
towns can boast the attractions of this small market town,
from its ancient Cistercian Abbey, the grounds of which
contain the buried heart of Robert the Bruce, to the site of
the greatest Roman fort of Southern Scotland, Trimontium,
and its exhibition in Melrose Town Centre. For the fisher
and golfer, too, there is much of which the town can boast,
with many golf courses being within easy reach, and the
River Tweed, running along the north side of Melrose,
offering some of the best fishing in the country. Nearby
can be found the family homes of Sir Walter Scott at
Abbotsford and the Duke of Buccleuch at Bowhill House, the
romantic Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys, where James Hogg, the
Ettrick Shepherd, lived and worked. |
