Kenny's musical career began at an early age, moving through the pop bands scene while living
in the Scottish Borders, he graduated to the folk scene and ran the
Peebles Folk Club for a while and then the Denholm Folk club. Kenny is
recently best known for his role as guitarist/vocalist with the hugely successful John Wright Band.
Kenny left the band after the final JWB concert on 21st January at
Celtic Connections in Glasgow, and is now building up his solo career as
well as touring with Real Time.
During the past few years Kenny has made several solo tours of
folk clubs in Scotland and England, and has been very well received. Many of the songs Kenny performs are from the beautiful Scottish Borders where
he lives. Kenny's first solo CD album "Bordersong"
(MVBCD1). is a mixture of traditional and contemporary songs, including such gems as
"Jock o' Hazeldean" and the beautiful "Broom o' the Cowdenknowes".
Kenny's indisputable talent for song-writing and composing music
comes to the fore in "My Borderland", and the slow, delicate instrumentals
"Minto Hill" and "Leaving Leithenside" which are also featured on
his first CD. As well as the traditional side of folk music Kenny is also able to
tap into a wide repertoire of songs by contemporary songwriters.
Kenny's manner both performing and off stage is relaxed, and friendly
and this coupled with his approachable manner makes him extremely
popular with audiences everywhere, and repeat bookings following his club appearances
are the norm.
Kenny is touring throughout 2002 with various line-ups and also in his solo capacity throughout the UK at folk clubs old and new where
no doubt he will delighted to sing to and meet the many fans and friends he has made
over the years.
Kenny's new CD produced in Big
Sky Studios in the Scottish Borders is now on sale online from this
site and available from Kenny during his tours in Spring/Summer 2002.
