Scotts Selkirk Performers
John Nichol from Selkirk is a hugely experienced actor of great versatility and range. He is a popular performer throughout the Scottish Borders, having been part of the amateur stage scene since 1981, with lead roles in many musical shows and dramas. His special gift for comedy has been honed through appearances in Scottish comedies, black comedies and Whitehall farces. John has written and performed comedy sketches and songs for stage and radio. He has also written and co-written Christmas pantomimes for stage and radio. In all of these he has directed and /or played the comic lead. John was part of a folk duo for ten years, performing traditional and contemporary music in bars and clubs and frequently on radio. Since 1987, John has worked with Rowan Tree Theatre Company, a professional touring theatre company, playing venues throughout Southern Scotland, in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and occasionally overseas (Canada, South Africa). John has played major roles in all of their productions to date. He has also had a major input in the writing and production of all Rowan Tree’s shows. He is much in demand for the annual Scottish Storytelling Festivals. John’s voice is easy on the ear, and his talents for mimicry and talking in many dialects, have made him the ideal choice for radio broadcasts, educational tapes, safety in industry tapes, and audio/visual presentations for museums countrywide. Along with Hilary, he is now making a name for himself as an after dinner entertainer, telling Scottish and local stories for visitors and corporate bodies. |
